CIDER PRESS CAFE COMPETES IN JAMES BEARD FOUNDATION BLENDED BURGER CONTEST!

The Blended Burger Project™ is back and better than ever.
Chefs from around the country join a movement that strives to make burgers healthier and more sustainable by blending ground meat with chopped mushrooms.
Local vegan restaurant, The Cider Press Café dares once again to enter a burger contest to prove that a vegan burger can hold it’s own against a beef burger!
“As a vegan restaurant, our mission is closely tied to sustainability, eco-friendliness, and compassion for animals. Although meatless burgers got a bad rap in the past, advances in food technology make the new patties nearly indistinguishable from conventional burgers,” commented Cider Press Café owner Johan Everstijn. “We challenge die-hard omnivores to try our burger and taste for themselves. Our motto is “vegan for all”; our burger can change minds and eating habits, no compromise in taste required!”
From Memorial Day through July 31, voters cast their ballots on the burger’s creative use of mushrooms, flavor profile, and appetizing appearance.
A cookbook author and teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge about food, the late James Beard was a champion of American cuisine. He helped inspire generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts by instilling in them the value of wholesome, healthful, and delicious food.
Today The James Beard Foundation continues in the same spirit by administering a number of diverse programs that include educational initiatives, food industry awards, scholarships for culinary students, publications, chef advocacy training, and thought-leader convening. The Foundation also maintains the historic James Beard House in New York City’s Greenwich Village as a “performance space” for visiting chefs.
